Recently students took a story from the ELA Benchmark reading program and created a reader's theater performance. He is a short clip of them in action. The story was called Gansos para la reina (Geese for the Queen). The students learned a positive message from the story, practiced dipthongs, worked as team and practiced their Spanish! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1s6l0zMwqizt__qGZd1HzWmXCpJUqmOfN/view?usp=sharing Enjoy!

Mrs. Pickel, principal at Darien Elementary School is meeting with each student to set a goal for improving their math and reading scores on the upcoming MAP tests. Students should be reading each night for 20-30 minutes and spending time in Dreambox (by themselves) to practice math concepts. MAP tests will begin next Monday. Students should get a good nights rest and eat a healthy breakfast on the day of their test. They will do a math test one day and a reading test another day.

This holiday season many students at Darien Elementary decided they would use their Starbcuk rewards to donate toys for kids at hospitals during the holidays. Students saved their Starbucks they earned and turned them in to 'buy' items to donate to others. With the help of donations from staff members and their families, especially Ms. Hungelmann-Skiba, we were able to purchase over 100 items which will be donated to Children's Hospital in Milwaukee. Some students also made cards to share with the gifts in hopes of making others smile. The students and staff enjoyed taking part in the season of giving, and are sending well wishes to you all as well!

The amazing artists in 3rd grade are finishing their Yayoi Kusama inspired pumpkins. In this lesson, students learned about Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama and painted a pumpkin in her style. The students used two colors of paint and learned how blending colors helps create depth to their art work. Students then used markers to add the artist inspired dots.
